GOLETA, Calif. – It was another spectacular day at Sandpiper Golf Club for round two of the 9th Founders Cup. Today again brought clear skies, a bit of breeze, and a high of 68 degrees. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for cooler temps and some stronger gusts.
Greg Sanders, of Anthem, AZ, is now four-under overall and continues to lead the Senior Division by one stroke over William Smith, of Newville, PA, as both players fired matching rounds of two-under 70 in round two. In third place at one-under total sits Tony Hejna, of Juno Beach, FL, who parlayed a hole-in-one on #18 (his ninth hole) into the low round of the day at three-under 69.
In the Super Senior Division, David Nelson, of Littleton, CO, is now tied with John Pate, of Santa Barbara, at one-over par 145 through two rounds. Third place now belongs to Donny Phillips, of Suwannee, GA, who is two strokes back of the lead duo.
Mark Weston, of Windermere, FL, fired the only red number on day two in the Legend Division with a one-under round of 71. He now leads by two strokes over Michael Jonson, of Sammamish, WA.
Gaylord Davis, of Portland, OR, took control of the Super Legend Division with another solid round on Thursday, this time a one-over 73. He now leads Michael Mahoney, of La Jolla, and Jim Saivar, of San Diego, by six shots heading into Friday’s final round.
