PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Birdies and eagles were flying, and another hole-in-one was made during Tuesday’s scramble format as players took advantage of ideal scoring conditions on the Greg Norman designed Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island, SC. Pete Allen and Don Donatoni continue to lead the overall competition at 19-under par after following up their medalist round of 64 yesterday with a 61 (-11) in the scramble portion. As we move to Wednesday’s final round of modified alternate shot, Allen and Donatoni will sleep on a two-stroke lead over John Brellenthin, of Dallas, TX, and Tim Peterson, of Forest Lake, MN, who shot 12-under 60 on Tuesday.
Jack Kearney, of Peachtree City, GA, and Pat Youngs, of San Antonio, TX, took medalist honors on Tuesday with a sizzling 13-under round of 59, good enough to leap into fourth overall at -15. Kearney and Youngs will be joined in the penultimate group by Doug Hanzel, of Savannah, GA, and Buzz Fly, of Memphis, TN. Hanzel and Fly are in third place after solid rounds of 67 and 61 during the first two days.
Congratulations to Dan Levinson, of New York, NY, on a hole-in-one on No. 12 with a pitching wedge.
Special thanks to the membership and staff at The Reserve Golf Club and to McConnell Golf for their generous hospitality in hosting the event.
Congratulations to our leaders on their fine play. We look forward to an exciting finish in the modified alternate shot format. Both players will tee off, then play each others second shot, and then pick the best ball and alternate until the ball is holed.
