RESULTS: 41st Ralph Bogart Tournament
JUPITER, Fla. – Through two rounds at Abacoa Golf Club, players have enjoyed ideal weather on Florida’s east coast with temperatures right around 80 degrees each day with winds kicking up to 10-15mph. The leaderboard is also heating up as we head into tomorrow’s final round, which will be an 8:00 a.m. Shotgun Start.
Playing in his first Society of Seniors event, Gene Elliott, of Norwalk, IA, fired the low round of the day in the Senior division with a fine 4-under 68. Elliott is now 6-under for the event and leads by two over a group of strong challengers. In the bunch at 4-under total, we have Doug Clapp, of Manomet, MA, Claud Cooper, of Birmingham, AL, and Kevin VandenBerg, of Pulaski, NY.
In the Super Senior division, James Pearson, of Charlotte, NC, now leads by three strokes after his second round 73 and is at 1-under for the tournament. In a tie for second place are Jim Starnes, of Ft. Myers, FL, and Robert Allen, of Johns Creek, GA.
Legend division stalwart Don Donatoni, of West Chester, PA, fired the low round of the tournament, and of his competitive career in round two with a sizzling 8-under 64 that featured six birdies on the front and two on the back nine. Donatoni is now 5-under for the tournament and leads Stephen Fox, of Pinehurst, NC, by three strokes. Bob Casamento, of Palm Coast, FL, is in third at 3-over.
Joel Hirsch, of Highland Park, IL, has seized control of the Super Legend division after a sparkling round of 5-under 67, which featured eight birdies and three bogeys. Hirsch now sits at 3-under for the tournament and leads by four strokes over Frank Polizzi, of Plymouth Meeting, PA, and Sam Robinson, of Ponte Vedra, FL.
