DURHAM, N.C. – The first round of the 42nd Dale Morey Championship is in the books. After a cool, foggy morning to start, the sun broke through along with a nice breeze to help dry out the Tom Fazio design at Treyburn Country Club, a McConnell Golf Property in Durham, North Carolina. Our first round leader is Lee Porter (Pinehurst, NC) after he posted a solid round of 4-under par, 68. Porter carded five birdies against one bogey to pace the field.
Right on Porter’s heels just one stroke back at 3-under are Paul Simson (Raleigh, NC) and Scott Ray (Central City, KY) after matching rounds of 69. Both Simson and Ray went out in even par and fired 33’s on the inward nine. Mike Moffat (Horsham, PA) is alone in fourth place at 2-under par. Round two gets underway tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
